Persian buttercup: Summer Bulb of the Year 2025

The Persian buttercup has been crowned ‘Summer Bulb of the Year 2025’. This colorful bulbous flower has captured the hearts of garden lovers and is a must-have for any garden this year. With its many color variations, the Persian buttercup is a real summer eye-catcher in gardens and on balconies and terraces.

Colorful and versatile

The Persian buttercup (Ranunculus) is known for its full-bodied flowers in a wide range of colors: from bright-yellow and orange to soft-pink and deep-red. It is a flower that fits seamlessly in any garden, but also comes into its own in pots on your patio or balcony. What’s more, Persian buttercup is a wonderful cut flower, so it also adds color to your home. The plant grows up to 6 – 14” tall, and the flowers can be up to 3” in diameter.

Low maintenance

Persian buttercups are easygoing flower bulbs that should be planted in the spring. Soak them in water a day in advance and plant the bulbs in a sunny spot, protected from wind. All they need after planting is a little water and occasional feeding, and you will enjoy an abundance of flowers from June to August.

Biodiversity

In addition to being beautiful and easy to care for, Persian buttercups also contribute to biodiversity. The flowers attract a variety of insects, such as bees and butterflies, which provide pollination and a healthy garden. As such, the Persian buttercup is not only a beauty to behold, but also great for the living environment.

About the ‘Summer Bulb of the Year’ award

The ‘Summer Bulb of the Year’ annual award is organized by iBulb (Royal Anthos): an initiative to inspire and inform gardeners about the versatility of summer bulbs. The Persian buttercup follows in the illustrious footsteps of previous winners such as Asian Lilies (2024) and Canna (2023).
