Planting tips

The proper growing conditions for this plant are tropical temperatures combined with a high relative humidity. It can even grow without soil, its only requirements being a shallow bowl and some water. In the tropical garden, it should be planted in well-drained soil containing a lot of organic matter. Keep the soil moist until the leaves die back.

Various species

There are only 4 or 5 different species, Sauromatum venosum being the best known. This is also the species about which much is known. It was first introduced in 1815.
